why do they have this anyway? End of contract / sponsorship and their time to go independent or get into another group?

At the end of the day, it's always gonna be a job. :c
Some want to part ways with the previous company OR find new opportunities with a different one.
Others, want a change in industry, or need to go for a less intensive job. It may even be a clash in culture or change in management that causes them to need to leave.

it sucks for the audience all the same.
