I was reminded randomly of my old realization that The Matrix is the opposite of Digimon

it's about an adult living in a digital world who escapes into a non-digital world that's way bleaker and more depressing than the one he came from, and then he meets a digital lifeform and forms an unbreakable bond of hatred with it
