Yes. It is called subscription ware. SAAS (Software as a service). I try my very best not to participate. Especially with hardware assets like cars, televisions, blueray players, computer applications, computers, etc.

Always be sure to purchase physical copies of any beloved media - movies, albums, etc. - that you can't live without.

Another reason to stick to vinyl LP records. Even reasonably priced, good sounding CD players are hard to find.

You buy an internet domain, and email address . . . nope they call it buying but you just rent it.

The biggest issue is , for example, that you buy a security set with locks and cameras and they work fine, you pay your yearly rent. And then the company goes bust and your locks stay locked.
