I’m not sure of it, but apparently it’s imperialist propaganda that was used in WWII with that story? So, a few fans on Twitter are all “Ew, Toei, why?!”

yeah back in the day the story of momotaro was used as jp imperialist propaganda as the protag symbolized Japanese soldiers bringing the fight to a public enemy. honestly I understand where they are coming from since
