i got pointed to a discourse about royal road earlier today, about how authors are getting scouted by publishers there and offered advances. i know serials and long-form works will continue to be a struggle for me, but man, checking the site and finding out the genres there are like... my jam
it's not wattpad that's like, a lot of romance and erotica. sure, i don't read/write litrpg but there's a lot less romance and smut overall?? which is great???? heck, the top work under the best rated category is a TIME LOOP fantasy adventure!!
i've tried. granted, i wasn't a genre i truly enjoy, but i tried and even with having almost 10+ chapters in advance, things just caught up with me and the thing is still there, unfinished. lmao
maybe someday, when i'm at last regularly writing, i can manage a chapter a week. i'd love that, because having a patreon is also a goal i have... but, you know, a platform like that requires some form of regularity, which at the moment i don't have and can't provide
soon enough i'll return to writing for book 3, and some submissions i've been eyeing that will close at the end of this month. after that (or idk, maybe i can squeeze it when i inevitably need a break from TPR stuff) i plan to work on nausicaa's story, and some shorts for anthos i planned to do with author friends last year
i really want to do ilda's soon too (and she and nausy share a verse now!) because there's a publisher i've been eyeing to submit her story to. i just keep waffling about the flow so it's had several iterations now...
and there's the quarterly short i planned to start for my newsletter subscribers, so i'm hoping to finalize one next month so it's out by july. it's very likely going to be monster ridge adjacent because there's a lot going on between books 1 and 2, then 2 and 3, and some of them won't even end up in the antho soooo
oh my dear friends, my thoughts might be organized but my execution never is i had so many plans this month and when i felt they were stressing me out, i just... dropped the ball on those i could
insta lives? hasn't happened. helping out at the theatre for the show? i backed out lol though hubby and i are going to watch this saturday night. book reviews? i've pushed those that aren't for tours to june. so yeah, i'm slowly learning that i tend to aim for too much, and i must learn to cut back lol
from the leaves
i used to be able to do it with fanfic before but... i was what, still in uni? and so much younger that i'm not this Tired in general haha. i am wondering if it would work having a buddy in terms of, we both need to get a chapter out this week for our serialized story, and we bug each other... but that remains to be seen lol
yeah! i was looking at these submission calls - of course they all want previously unpublished works, but the upper limits of the word count seem doable for a serialized work. made me think to use the calls as prompts or something like that, haha
RR's def more aligned with my author brand than wattpad, which is why i've really been thinking about this. and then i'm hoping, at the very least, to train my brain into doing something regularly. that's a win if i even get there. and complete a few drafts.
next tier goal would be to get followers that might want to read my other books or leave a tip on kofi. then patreon at some point. maybe. eventually. wishful thinking haha!
But also, I say go for it? You'll never get the chance if you don't even give it a try and if worst comes to worst, you might get some words that you can do things with in a different way
yeah i'll continue to give it a think! i just don't also want to stray too far from or add too much to the pile of what i already have planned, as shiny as some things might be XD
hilariously, while the insta live event this month fell through, i'm now in talks to... do lives for this year's BBNYA (book bloggers' novel of the year awards)
yeah we have a group chat with the panelists and organizers and i was like "hey should i leave? i have a book in the competition this year" and they're just "nah, you're good, ALSO we'll have stuff for you to do"
i mean, it's more than likely going to be what the heck happened in niflheim seeing as i rp both hel and baldr HAHAHA
