ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Late but character moms

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Leandra Hawke is an extremely flawed and fascinating character. Based on what we see of her in the game, I have it that she really does love her family and absolutely loved her husband, she's eminently practical but also prone to verbally lashing out in times of high stress and grief.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
There's a lot of the fandom that either makes her out to be perfect mom or, more commonly, a complete horrible shrew but she's more complex than either of those takes

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Leandra meant well but she messed up her kids. She did not do this on purpose. She was simultaneously loving and overbearing, tried to teach them what they needed to know to survive but also had a hard time seeing around her own experience.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
She was supportive and progressive regarding mages but also never 100% got over what she gave up for love. She taught Adalwolfe how to comport himself like nobility even though they were in the backwoods of Ferelden because that's the life they should have had.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
She was always a little tone deaf to how that made not only her kids feel (see Carver's whole 'I don't care this isn't my life??) but her husband too. Malcolm never really got over his guilt for taking her away from that life of luxury and safety even though she would be the first to tell you if was her choice

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
And she'd do it again in a heartbeat

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
She meant that, but she also missed it deeply. Leandra is, ultimately, very human with all the faults and mistakes that go with that.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
I love her. I love the complicated relationship she has with Adalwolfe in particular because of how he ended up filling his father's shoes.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Leandra mostly treats him as her eldest son and always remembers he's an adult but she also leans on him hard and blames him for things that are not his fault just because he's there. And he allows this, not really pushing back all that hard.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
But they love each other, and Wolfe gets his romanticism and his practicality from her.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Arras and Farram Stonehewer are technically both female but they're dwarves and gender isn't much of a thing in dwarven society in Amnos' setting.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
So they're "parents," but they term themselves mothers or fathers or whatever, it doesn't matter. What matters is they love their son and they taught him to be able to take care of himself, and value himself.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Amnos only is as well adjusted as he is because of the close-knit family unit that raised him. He had it rough, as one does being an emotionally-prone child who sprouts at 11 and just never stops growing.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
In a society of folks who top out at 4'8" on average

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
But they made sure Amnos knew who he was and that he's loved and their child regardless of where he physically came from.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
No parent is perfect and they definitely would have moments of dispairing about his behavior or their difficulties in figuring out how to combat it when aspects of dwarven society didn't work well with just how Amnos is (not physically a dwarf, so there was some prejudice even if he's supposed to be recognized as a dwarf by society)

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
But they always took the time to explain things patiently and talk through whatever Amnos heard or saw after the fact.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
They're good at contextualizing things.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Amnos' birth mother on the other hand, Falcone, is a fucking piece of work.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
A human barbarian from the Thar, Amnos gets his height and coloring from her, and possibly the echoes of his tendency towards faith, but she's a religious woo woo who abandoned him at the gates of Thar Kaldur because she decided god told her to.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Which... Amnos has actual confirmation from Morradin himself that he did not, in fact, tell her to.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Falcone is dead and wandering Mt. Celestia waiting for her husband to die and join her, but ooooooh boy she's a nutbar

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
She abandoned two other children for similar reasons too, so Amnos is sort of going around collecting his siblings a little bit. His brother Thymus was left with the elves of Cormyr because Falcone Decided he was also a special soul that was meant for that society or something.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Either way, she's one of the handful of Amnos' absolute rage triggers. He hates her. He hates how much he hates her, how angry she is, and the effect she's had on his life. He definitely believes that she's concocted this story about gods as a way to get rid of kids she doesn't want, which for being such a kid oriented dad himself, Amnos cannot forgive

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
He just can't decide if it's because she's insane or if she knows full well what she's done and keeps up the charade anyway. The former would at least be a bit more understandable, just not really better..

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
This is why Amnos is low key looking for his father, who's still alive.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Anyway, tl;dr Amnos' birth mother is terrible and he's a Stonehewer all the way down so fuck her.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Edda Heinrich is Albert's entirely headcanoned mother.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
She's a formidable woman who seems pretty stoic but is intensely loving and dutiful. She was a housewife turned nurse in WWII, working on the Axis side and mostly keeping her head down to protect her son and herself. She moved them from Dresden to Berlin when he was sixteen and lived into his adulthood.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
She's a practical sort, very focused on reasonable expectations and abilities. She has no patience for laziness and bs but will be swayed by reasonable arguments.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
She loves art and music and poetry and instilled that in Albert (as did his father, who was a music teacher before the war. He died at Stalingrad)

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Albert's relationship with her was always good. She raised him to be thoughtful and moral, with a sense of charity tempered by an understanding of duty to himself and his family. She died of old age when Albert was in his twenties.

I have emotions about all of these parents

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
She's vital to how Albert turned out, but she's also been gone now for more than 50 years so he doesn't talk about her a whole lot.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
𝑅𝒶𝓋𝑒𝓃 𝒦𝒾𝓃𝑔
: Good. Me too

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Medusa's mother is Ceto and she's mostly up to Terri lol. I do imagine that Ceto isnt really in Medusa's life much anymore, and wasn't super in her life to begin with in a meaningful way?

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Idk, in my head she's a little like Regina's mom in Mean Girls.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Just lets her kids get away with anything because she wants to be friends with them more than be mom

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
I'm letting that be all I come up with though, cause I wanna give room for GM manipulation, ehehehe

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Raleigh's mother is an absolute terrible person!! I don't think we've given her a name yet but she's a manipulative power-hungry sorceresses who treats Raleigh like an accessory at best. He is her property and should do as she says, play his role, or there will be consequences.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
From his perspective, she's always been very cold and distant but as a child he thought she was just busy and still loved him. She let him do what he wanted and he always had the finest toys and clothes and anything else he wanted.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Spoiled as he was, he didn't notice until into his 20s when she abruptly told him he's going to take over as head of family in a figurehead capacity or else she'd cut him off. He called her bluff and ran off to Tal'dorei and she's since sent members of the Myriad (read, mob) to retrieve him.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
I think there's a whole lot more going on, especially considering ideas I've thrown at Ly, but it's up to her to decide and mess with as DM and I'm excited to see where that goes.

ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
𝑅𝒶𝓋𝑒𝓃 𝒦𝒾𝓃𝑔
