Ethlyn's own mother died when she was young - it isn't specified when or under what circumstances, so I headcanon that it happened when Ethlyn was 11 - 12 because it was the catalyst for Ethlyn basically taking over management of Chalphy

Having to do that shaped a lot of what Ethlyn is today - this is why she feels responsible for EVERYTHING and hates being idle, because if she's idle then it means there's something out there she's Supposed to be Doing and isn't

Larcei's mother is Ayra, who was in Ethlyn's generation - Larcei firmly believes that Ayra is still alive, but I think that is just something Larcei believes to make herself feel less terrible about her circumstances
