You're Quinner
a thought I've been having a lot recently about the Big Shots of society
You're Quinner
the broad structure of capitalist society is that some people are Big Shots and most people are not
You're Quinner
the big shots get everything and have the best lives
You're Quinner
and the small fry seek to become big shots
You're Quinner
what's been separating me from this mindset lately is that like
You're Quinner
OK so if you look at big capitalist successful people's lives
You're Quinner
they have a lot of stuff and a lot of money and a lot of sex or whateever
You're Quinner
but the way you get there, as far as I can tell, is just
You're Quinner
never do anything fun or self-fulfilling and work that grindset 22 hours a day
You're Quinner
do evil and greedy things and stand for nothing and gnaw the throats of your enemies off
You're Quinner
be hypervigilant about constant threats to your success and lose your mind in rage and overwhelming offensive against each one
You're Quinner
and man that life sounds like shit
You're Quinner
are any of these people ever happy
You're Quinner
or are they ruining their own lives in order to make an arbitrary number go up at the expense of ever having fun or actual human connection
You're Quinner
you have to burn all of that for fuel
You're Quinner
I value my ability to see other people as anything other than obstacles or opportunities
You're Quinner
I'd rather have a comfortable life doing things I like than rewire my brain into a social media algorithm and stop listening to music so that I can get more subscribers
bluecanary
i think a lot of people can be big shots just by having rich parents
bluecanary
those guys might be happyish
oh i'm scary
yeah the being evil and having no real human connections is legit but most of these people definitely don't work super hard
Niamh Vibes
Even they seem kind of miserable
oh i'm scary
the Grindset thing is a grift for middle-achievers
You're Quinner
guys like andrew tate who couldn't go fifteen seconds without vomiting out a hate screed against some other man so that he can prove he's still the manliest man
skerple
I think the people who get to be Big Shots by having rich parents might think they're happy but there's a kind of emptiness to the life they inherit
skerple
like you cannot convince me that Elon Musk is happy

*rich PARENTS, edited
boo(f)
i do think the people who are on The Grindset have definitely driven themselves insane
boo(f)
like, it's not hard to see how kanye became a paranoid conspiracy-theorist huffing antisemite
Rama
I don't know whether social media has financially encouraged the rise of miserable outrage machines or just made them more visible
Rama
It is a scientifically proven fact that money's effect on happiness has diminishing returns

Like there's definitely a lot of Celebrity Rich People who are clearly miserable and act like the biggest assholes imaginable in a vain attempt to get validation
Rama
Musk, Tate, Trump

A lot of other people immiserate others to make their number go up without being quite so loud
