So let me tell you about this dumb manga on Webtoon that I’ve been reading for a year now, Maybe Meant to Be

It’s the only time I’ve read a “will they or won’t they?” romantic plot where the two main characters get MARRIED in episode 1 but the “will they or won’t they” persists still (to a lesser degree) in episode 66

I normally drop will they / won’t they plots pretty quick because I find them feeling but that novelty plus some other factors kept me going

The basic plot established in episode 1 is that Jia is a 30 something woman who still lives with her parents and they won’t stop nagging her to get married and move out

And Mincheol is a 30 something autistic-coded engineer, gamer, and gym addict who has zero interest in dating and is kind of horrified to find out that his parents are signing him up for a matchmaking service

These two were childhood friends and run into each other at the height of their parents nagging trying to get some alone time and find each other, tell each other about their similar problems, Joa suggests getting married as a joke just so their parents will leave them alone, and smash cut to them actually getting married

That’s episode 1

It’s filled with a lot of people not acting rationally for the sake dragging the comedy/drama out and keeps adding soap opera like twists that make me go “this is dumb” but makes me read anymore

They both catch feelings for each other pretty quickly but are both too socially awkward in their own ways to communicate that to each other

Minor spoiler but they do steadily make relationship progress at a snails pace, it doesn’t just maintain total status quo forever in stagnation

If they didn’t advance the relationship at all I would’ve dropped the story a while ago

And to give a sense of progression, it starts with them basically just roommates in a sham marriage to like, they’re now kissing and going on dates, and the main hang up right now is that Jia is really fucking horny for Mincheol and wants to ask for the sex but is too embarrassed to and Mincheol doesn’t seem to get it, and meanwhile Mincheol seems to also

feel the same way about Jia but likewise doesn’t know how to handle this kind of stuff and also doesn’t seem to get that Jia feels the same way because all the obvious signals of her interest go right over his head

Anyway I don’t think anyone gives a shit but I’ve been reading this for a while now and have no one to talk to about it so I made a ramble Plurk

I haven't gotten far in it but I'm a sucker for romance. found this will they won't they story at least a nice change since they get married in chapter 1
