the reviews for GMA's Voltes V sound a lot like the reviews for Power Rangers Once And Always. Having seen the latter, I doubt I'll like the former.

Sounds like both are pure nostalgia bait for fans of the source material, but it probably won't pull in people like me who have no connection to the IP.

Once and Always is true to the source material - down to the clunky SFX, writing, and wooden acting

A friend who does VFX even pointed out that Once and Always used free Premiere effect packs, which makes it even funnier

Yeah, Once and Always feels to me exactly what I felt about MMPR when it was airing. I was already too old and cynical to really get into the US tokusatsu wave. It was all new to me as we didn't get much Mask Rider, et al. on US TV in the 80s like they did here.
