my stance on Smile is shifting over time

where I'm at now is, like...

it's a good movie with a bad plot

the story is nonsense, it waffles constantly on whether or not it's being sympathetic to people with mental illness or using them as shock props, the characters make incredibly boneheaded decisions constantly

but the sheer amount of precision and artistry that goes into making it Scary is just so strong that it has value just for that

The gimmick sounded incredible

Just anyone smiles for any reason and you start to brace yourself

it's also such a good way to swerve any scene

something says something weird or out of place and you go, wait

and then, they start to smile

god that ending sucked ass though

I should make my friends watch it at some point
