ish! INTEREST CHECK. a couple of players approached asking if there would be interest in a short-term (1 year max with events) epilogue game for tying up loose ends. It would be similar to the sandbox option after closing, check-in AC, and with slightly more structure for those who are concerned about a sandbox failing
Hi! This is still, obviously, in early stages, but yes, new applications would be an option, with the caveat that the game is a limited run epilogue and that some aspects of the application mechanics will change
I haven't been around very long, but was enjoying myself and wouldn't complain about getting a little more mileage with folks if there's someone offering to coordinate some events to bounce off of
That’s the basic plan. We wanted to set up something with a little more structure for people to continue to play with the setting and explore player plots they won’t be able to start or close out in the next couple of months.
I am comfortable with this idea, if players seek to do something like this. It also gives players a way to gradually ease their way into the transition beyond just the next 4 months
the timing aspect that has me confused is -- there are definitely people who want to keep their trench CR possibly for much longer than a year, would this epilogue be actually creating an end-ending, or simply extending the time with events being provided and mod-run storytelling
yes definitely keep us posted. i know im not contributing too much. all i know is that i enjoy playing with a lot of you and i wanna keep playing with you all. ive gotten very comfy with everyone here and the thought of me having to join a new game this soon and adapting to new people is scary.
there’s also possibly the option of like. doing the epilogue run -> back to deer country sandbox for ppl who still don’t feel finished by 1 year’s time
working lunars
: HMM. My main concern about two timelines is that it could spread remaining people kinda thin. If there were some way to comfortably make the epilogue an "opt-in" experience that allows people to play on either side of the fence without having to juggle two continuities, that would be my personal preference
ooh if it’s an opt-in experience and then the epilogue’s own endgame has a ‘return to sandbox’ option then ppl could theoretically have their cake and eat it
Could the potential epilogue structure/goal/what it means re: an ending vs continuation etc be laid out? (at least what is known/currently under consideration) That way people can ask better questions/suggestions/etc
i always like structure but i'm here for the long haul in whatever form it takes as long as folks are interested a blended approach sounds great but i'm mostly just like happy to be here lmao
i do better with structure but i feel like there's enough player plot stuff that i might be able to maintain some structure for a while, i am down for both things
I'm personally down for a combination of the two: If someone wants to epilogue, I'll take part in that, but I personally intend to go with the sandbox for as long as anyone else chooses to keep it up.
mod plots are fun but the structure I think is most helpful to me personally are the monthly challenges that characters can just react to, that more than anything is what I'd like to see carried over to the next iteration of the game
I'm gonna wait for more details before weighing in re epilogue, because I've got thoughts/commentary on the little I've heard so far but they are probably not well-formed!
Probably my biggest lore idea: Falling asleep in Sleepy Town would cause the involved characters to slip into Deeringtona and experience some of its history. allowing the re-use of event/TDM prompts from that game.
Just weighing in to say I prefer the idea of people carrying their ideas for tying up loose ends and development arcs into the sandbox, even if that means the sandbox maintains more structure between an actual game and a sandbox for a year or so.
Where we could do things like vote on decisions characters make that change the setting or on major lore additions in addition to doing player plots for the conclusions we want to see.
So I don't see why plans for an epilogue couldn't just be used as plot to keep the sandbox more game than not, unless the point of it is to truly end the world setting entirely.
But even just with the plot and lore stuff I've spoken to mods privately on to roll into player plots there's a lot more I'd like to do in the setting that I wouldn't want to rush.
I like the epilogue option more, and I like what

has suggested re: voting. I've always liked when characters could have a real impact on the setting
um, I really love

's thought there as someone who wasn't actually in deerington but just read it -- that gets even more material for sandboxing for people who thrive off prompt-style events (they are great)
But also: I think how I feel about it comes down to what's meant by exploring player plots -- if it's meant to be anyone's player plots that they weren't ready to launch before endgame, then it feels like splitting the epilogue into a spinoff game doesn't make a lot of sense; people interested in giving plot structure to keep things going
If what's meant is a specific set of player plots the intended mods have been planning for their dudes that'll be setting-rocking and might not play well with people sandboxing, then I understand the split to a spinoff game but am kinda ambivalent about it bc it seems like it'll draw off a lot of energy that could be invested in the base game
There's no pressure to transfer it over, as we will retain everything mentioned here already, but there is also now a more structured interest check post available here
When it comes to specific metaplot discussions: that is several steps further on the roadmap, as the final metaplot outcome of Deer Country is not complete and will have a significant impact on all of the answers to those questions
oh, linhardt that is a fantastic idea for the sandbox (since my impression is Simcha will be making it available regardless of epilogue happening or not) and could probably be done by anyone with time to dive through the old posts so it's a fantastic thought. like many people have said there's tons of material there
a blended approach sounds great but i'm mostly just like happy to be here lmao
