DNA stuffies. So... I decided to upload my ancestry dna raw data to MyTrueAncestry to see how different it was to the 23&me.

So, first off, when we did the 23&me test, we did the health thing too - and it said I don't have genes for red hair or curly hair.... [if I lighten my hair, its very red, and well, curly hair....]

Now, for a while I thought it might still be fairly accurate on the ethnicities, so I used that first on my True Ancestry. Thing is, how I match to difference individuals [historical] is a good bit different, but also....

Well, this is the predicted modern groups for the 23&me sample: East German, Hungarian, Central German, Austrian, Czech, Flemish, Southwest Finnish, South Dutch.

And this is the predicted modern groups based on the ancestry: East German, Austrian, Hungarian, Czech, Croatian, Central German, Slovenian and Serbian.

Now, don't get me wrong, while some of the stuff on the 23&me on could make sense, based on what I know of my family history, the ancestry ones seems a -lot- more accurate.

That said, if folks are into doing the dna testing, it might just be worth it to save up and get a -full- dna write-up. The testing companies aren't just working with different sample groups, but also, don't use all your dna to begin with.

When I can afford it I would like to get a DNA test that really delves into things. Thanks for sharing this.

: I'm looking into Nebula right now. I think their middle test package is like 500? which last I looked a full test it was 800 to 1000. But yeah, now I know another reason for the whole ethnicities not matching expected or across different companies.

: Between 800 - 1000 for a full DNA test sounds pretty reasonable and definitely worth considering. I know my brother wants to do one as he's curious about our Scottish ancestors connection to Somerled. lol.

: Yeah, it is, and unlike the health assessments from like 23&me, theirs can be used with doctors.

: That's definitely worth considering. I have flat feet which my doctor said is inherited via genetics, my mother's father also had flat feet so I wonder how many of my Scots ancestots had them as well. lol.
