I even bit my tongue and said: yeah, only recently got back into it. And nothing more until he asked me what I've been watching lately

He brought everything else unto himself at that point. Clearly I could not be held responsible.

I am of course playing things up for the sake of being silly and dramatic for the internet

And I said no; it's a completely new story.

It has nothing to do with the original manga and anime. It's a unique story.

A bit complicated as it is telling a story before some events, but it's not a prequel.

No, brotherhood was following the story of the manga that the original anime couldn't tell as the manga was still ongoing at the time. Besides an overall theme and characters Trigun Stampede is completely new

But somehow after that he still circled back around to ask if it was a remake. I was like... dude. It's not-- please don't expect the original anime from it

Still he's considering watching it this long weekend so mission I didn't know I was on successful.

They are - admittedly I would be thrilled to hear that we were getting a full on Trigun Maximum anime - but I want to see what Stampede has to offer first. It's awesome going into each episode not 100% knowing what will happen

Yeah, if I had to label it I'd go with "reboot prequel". It's following some of the manga storyline, just with a couple minor and some major differences.

Definitely its own beast.

I really love the fact that we have three solid stories from this franchise. Something for everyone and can't hit different moods for what I might be feeling at any time

Totally agreed! ...although I think it's a little odd that the fandom as a whole seems to have decided that Badlands Rumble is its own separate universe, though.

Exactly, same here. Same voice actors, mostly the same art style...

It's basically what 98 would have been with a budget

I still remember being excited the first time watching it and seeing the sandsteamer hit a rock in the opening because it meant they had money to "waste" on something like that.

If they had the time and money for a small world building thing like that to show how powerful the sand steamers are I got so hyped for how good the fights would look

Yessss and then they spent all that time animating discussion about a hard little yam thing instead.

I know it was Chekhov's yam, but still.

Such silly food - but I loved it anyway. I was just shocked the movie was real as I thought it was a prank when I first heard about it
