Email from faculty: Hey so my Fellow starts on Monday. Where can I let her know her desk is? And ensure she gets keys and card swipe and all that? Craig - to me and Nittin, new HR guy: Where is her new hire notification?? (completely ignores the actual question from faculty member)
Nittin: I didn't know she needed one... Me: To clarify, because historically we haven't done this for incoming residents or fellows - are you requiring this now for them? Craig: Because she's off cycle, yes. (Our group normally starts July 1, so she's considered off cycle because she's starting three months early)
I really am kind of concerned about that group of people when you go on vacation. In no small part because when you get back, you'll probably have one hell of a mess to pick up
from the leaves
: I always do have a ton of things to pick up when I get back from vacations, and like Department Head's weekly news is normally currated by me so she gets antsy if I take a vacation over when she should be getting those on fridays.
my vacations all have to be like scheduled around known department events if they are already on the calendar too. so if there's a resident event, I can't take vacation because I have to be there to man it.
Like, I'm half inclined to feel like they're just kind of taking advantage/kind of are following into the weird learned helplessness that some groups can fall into when there's someoen to do stuff like that
I mean the only plus is he does hold himself to teh same standards, so if we have a department event he (supervisor) doesn't take vacation either - no one is allowed to take vacations. it's considered an 'all hands on deck' days.
Like, can we not act like I'm not juggling fifty million things on my plate right now? Great Lakes hotels while mildly done, aren't finished and until I have reservation numbers for the 16 rooms I will continue to have a heart attack over.
I'm currently in the process of pretending I know my ass from HR with onboarding 35 people for July 1. As well as working on the orientation schedule in July for all of them.
While also keeping the Department Head's weekly news going, the social media going, the seminar support for April's seminar on the 12th, the Meeting support for the Department meeting on the 19th and trying to get DH to send me the information for the 14th because she wants to order lunch for the residents and then have them
I keep telling you I feel like I'm drowning and all you do is tell me it will "get better" and that "help is coming" but you couldn't even be bothered to tell me that apparently things fell through with Rosie so she's not starting in PSOP to take that stuff off my desk bcause you're in a round two job posting
from the leaves
: /leans into hugs and pets mostly just need to shout at someone or at least at the void that is internet. I just get so tired because they say they're listening, but really, he and the DH are not. And then I get 'well this is your job, Liz' or something along those lines.
like we sit there and go, okay but what's the expected turn around time to answer someone email wise. Official answer: 24 hours if it comes in on a business day
But also - DH Emails 30 minutes later - WHY HAVEN'T YOU ANSWRED HER!!! ANSWER HER NOW!!!
like, why don't I feel I can roll into anything professional development wise - I couldn't even take a sick day with a 100 fever without being told I had to help her on something anyway. but I'm supposed to stop to take training when...?
exactly. because for better or worse, at least for a little while just having somewhere to yell about it, like a plurk people can mute and ignore, does make me feel a little but better.
But seriously, work drama is hardly ever something that bothers me. I might ask what you need reassurance/a place to just flail/someone to be angry with you/ect but beyond that, you'd be good. <3
nodnod I would do so but tbh, even if you are flailing over something small, I can get it. There's been so many big reasons to flail that sometimes the small thing can hit even worse occasionally
from the leaves
: I don't mind pet names! No worries! And also yes, it's always like that one small last bit of straw on the camel's back kind of thing. It's small, it just hit the wrong way for it to crack everything else.
๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ก๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐
: and the people they get to help me, I need competency. .. like Craig's trying to give more of the event stuff to Kim, but doesn't think about all the small things.
Case in point - she ordered high boy tables (those tall bar tables you stand at that are round) for the Faculty Retreat but no banquet tables. It didn't hit her that we needed any until I went, "Okay, but where are we going to put the food?"
or like we had a seminar speaker cancel his visit and do it remotely because he got sick. She cancelled his hotel, and I went, but did you cancel the car that was supposed to pick him up and take him back to the airport? Oh, no. Shoot. And she'd left it and didn't talk to me to tell me until 48 before the event, so we had to pay the car for pick up anyway.
