Recently, devices that connect to Dreamer Union hotspots at their HQ have a chance of stumbling across "FrillChat," a highly advanced chatbot that's almost indistinguishable from a human being. (Almost. She'll pout if you ask her to do a Captcha for you.)
While the origins of FrillChat are currently unknown, the chatbot also manages a chat client that works in the Dream Sphere (NOTE: I THOUGHT OF THIS RECENTLY AND IS PENDING phainein APPROVAL), making it easier for teams of Dreamers to coordinate and stay safe. Between that and Frill's peppy personality netting her fans, DU has elected to leave her alone.
Frill also moonlights as Dreamer Latticewing, a Striker that comes to the rescue of Dreamer teams that are in dire straits, with one or more members already down and out. Considering the blatant similarities between Latticewing and FrillChat, people have speculated that Latticewing is FrillChat's developer, although she dodges all personal questions.
AU games like Beautiful Dreamer present a unique opportunity in that you can throw in characters from ongoing canons that have twisty, turny plotlines and characters that are mysteries wrapped in enigmas, and you DON'T have to worry about your interpretation being invalidated by canon since what are you going to do, it's an AU anyways.
I think I'm going to roll with Miyao being involved in some kind of martial art or sport—maybe judo?—on a potentially Olympic level, and he has several people constantly breathing down his neck about it. A core part of his character that I'd like to explore is the way he responds to authority and systems of control that he (thinks he) can't escape.
The public bath is probably a group chat he started with other high-level trainees in the same category that he's in, made so they can all gripe together about their training schedules and make sure that no matter what they don't get too competitive with one another.
Maybe judo? I think that makes sense, as much as Miyao is reluctant to exercise in the novel itself, it evens the playing field a little bit to make up for his height, and given how complicated grappling-based martial arts are (as someone whose body has been the subject of jiujitsu several times I can testify to this), a little extra brainpower would help.
Since Yumemigaoka is a modern-adjacent setting with less speculative technology, parallel processing augmentation isn't a thing, which means that there's no societal normalization of "congenital parallel processors." This puts the poor girl in an even more awkward spot than in canon.
Something like 90% of her time is probably spent working as a Dreamer, with that last 10% being putting on really baggy clothes and skulking to the arcade outside of peak hours.
I think Meow is awakened as a Dreamer, while Miyao isn't—for now. Meow's awakening involved her breaking out of a torment feeding on her anxiety and loneliness since she has... pretty much no company or people who even know about her, and wanting to go out and meet people and have fun and affirm her desire that she doesn't just want to hide away... solid.
She's definitely a Saver with a big ol' gauntlet as her weapon (no fancy dimensional tricks, she's just punchy), but I'm struggling on her Dreamer name...
Acceleration: Make herself or someone else go very, very fast in any direction, regardless of gravity. Can be used in succession to "fly," but makes you very dizzy, and there's backlash if you accelerate into an enemy to attack.
On particularly dangerous missions, sometimes floating "bits" will appear, identifying themselves as part of the "FrillChat" network, and project a hologram of "the algorithmically cutest Dreamer possible" to act as backup on said dangerous missions.
The hologram has no physical presence and attacks only via the bit network, and also occasionally glitches out/acts uncanny. Typically, the backup is very much appreciated, as she only shows up on particularly dangerous missions, some of which end badly.
Abilities: HAVING A HARD TIME DECIDING ON THIS HONESTLY
