Today's random story idea. An inter-dimensional organization that approaches leaders of dystopias and offers to take some of their dissidents off their hands... to 'relocate' to more philosophically-compatible dystopias in exchange for accepting new people (from off world).
Becca Stareyes
Mostly exploring the decision to get out versus resist tyranny (because I think both are valid in general), and maybe whether people really would be happier in a totalitarian or apocalyptic state just because it matched philosophically with what they say they want.
Jaydee
It would work as long as the tyrants don't have to worry about them. I DO like the idea, especially since it has that crossover/multiversal bent I wish was more used.
Jaydee
On one hand, regimes simply wanting their little own sand castles would toss them away if it meant no longer worrying about them or the organization... but, some despots could instead fear the organization more, and be of the "if I can't use them, then neither can you!" school of thought.
Jaydee
It IS a clever take on dystopias having a brain drain, though. I do see stories happening from the POV of dissidents wanting to escape to that organization, but the leaders of said dystopia not wanting them out.

Oooo... I could dig this as well.

"Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" anyone?
Becca Stareyes
Yeah, I can imagine that even the existence of an ideolgoically-opposed dictatorship would be grounds for 'why would we help them, even if it benefits us'.
ShaynaIsHere
"If we can't be right, then what is the meaning of everything???"
Becca Stareyes
(But I'm trying to practice spinning out a neat bit of worldbuilding into actual plot and characters, so I might try this.)
andalite!
that's fun! iirc brave new world has an option for some of the dissatisfied 'alpha' class citizens to instead go live in their own little tyrant colony
