in serious life stuff first, hubby has been telling me that he wants us to get private medical insurance just in case, given how much time it takes the NHS these days to get anything done if cases aren't priority. we have one now that i don't pay a pence for since it's with the company, but, eh, my contract ends in october...
i cannot afford not having a source of income in winter when gas/electricity is going to skyrocket bc of heating, plus with the way our household expenses are split atm, i pay the rent. i know hubby will gladly take on everything to give me the break - he's always just said things like "i'll just put in more OT shifts" - but i don't want that.
and the insurances will be additional expenses. i really don't think i can earn enough to cover that from just poking some writing things, as much as i want to. ugh.
i will have to start looking at work from home freelancing things that i could get into. i already tried ghostwriting (for fiction) and got burned out with it. i'm not sure i can do nonfiction, i don't think i'm interested enough in it. and i want to remain working from home hahaha

i like the idea of not having to come up with a plot and just write what i'm told to, but gods it was... A Time. it's hard to separate myself from the idea that it's not my work and just allow it to be, uh, not as good as i want my writing to be lmao
i want to prepare now while we have time - i have a substantial amount saved from last year given how well this current job pays, so we have a buffer in case i'm unemployed for a while, but with the rising cost of everything i just want to be on the safe side

i'm not sure it pays as well considering the amount of effort that needs to be put in? it's an option i've been keeping in mind but the rates i've seen and the amount of work required don't seem to be very enticing
Gotcha. I was partially thinking because you have the recording equipment for the singing, you have it for that too. So it’s not like you’d need any added equipment at least.
and to really turn one of the rooms into a studio and soundproof it and everything. it's one thing to just record your own stuff, but clients have standards. (i'm in a voice acting group in facebook for a while now so i've been looking at these things.)

I am not a tiktok person, so I don't know if this is a thing you could do, but can you open a ko-fi and link it to tiktok as just a thing that people can do if they are so inclined?
otherwise yeah I am kinda unfamiliar offhand with what it looks like for writers other than, like, for established writers who either do a story a month (godspeed to them) or there's subscription-locked lore or something
