so that when they sit down and he pushes her towards making a plan or getting some focus or trying to do something TOWARDS a goal, he can point out that she's full of shit when she says she's not good at anything but violence

It's more that he's already been told the 'give her a chance to get better'. So it's not a 'what she did was ok and you should let it go', just a 'well, give her a chance to improve because rocky starts happen'. If that makes sense
