yeah I'd be surprised to see them totally move away from the switch when it's been so successful for them so this is probably gonna be like a 3ds situation or something
the switch is absolutely due for a hardware revision, especially with next gen consoles well two and a half years into their lifespans. If they (hopefully) manage any kind of backwards compatibility, what they’re releasing now is moot, and outside TOTK and Pikmin 4 Nintendo’s output is slowing down a bit for the system anyway.
And it seems like the OLED was originally meant to be a power upgrade, but the chip shortage was in full swing then so they only changed the outer components. (Per anonymous industry sources cited by Digital Foundry.)
New Switch models can mean a lot of things, but I’d say it’s definitely due for an upgrade by its 7th anniversary at the least
but they also know the full ins and outs of their console so they could drag it out for as long as they wanted with nintendo exclusives and indie titles
but the longer they do that the longer they'll struggle with any cross-console ports, or the indies that are designed towards the ninth generation consoles
but nintendo potentially can just. not care?? because they've been doing fantastically for that since the switch is the third best selling console of all time

Nintendo’s experiencing their first downward trend in years, even if slightly. And it’s easy to see why, there’s basically no one else to sell them to.
I feel like the switch eshop is such a behemoth of so many games now, with PS5 and Series X carrying things forward, it would be PR suicide to do anything less. So here’s hoping.
