Dragons Dragons
[magical revolution spoilers and also granbelm spoilers if anyone cares about that]
Dragons Dragons
Dragons Dragons
yeah... yeah
Dragons Dragons
i mean i'd be a pedant and point out that anna's family didn't actually adopt shingetsu, but her mom outright states they were going to before she ran away, so
TC
man...granbelm had some good stuff going for it, kinda wish it wasn't just "MGRP but with robots and SUPER Madoka vibes"
TC
though i DID like the robots
Dragons Dragons
I love GRANBELM and hate MGRP, so I'm kind of surprised that that's how you read it? Though I know there are a lot of different reads on it.
Dragons Dragons
I'd say it's mecha meets tournament with magical girl elements, not magical girl meets death game with mecha elements.
TC
I am very ambivalent to MGRP cause I know it's bad but I like ideas in it and apparently the manga is better but anyways
TC
I'd say it's a Mecha meets Magical Girls in a Death Game, but I would also say Magical Girls matter more than the Mecha cause the Mecha just seems to be there to facilitate the girls who could just be doing magic fights without them.
TC
Which is a shame
TC
That said I will say Granbelm is more like Kamen Rider Ryuuki than the memes say Madoka ever was.
TC
which is why I said it's got super Madoka vibes
Dragons Dragons
Makes sense. Though I really don't see a lot of magical girl in it aside from the mage transformations -- it's a magical mecha show, with the mecha a major part of the combat (we barely see any combat outside of the ARMANOX) and each informed by and changing with the user's wishes and combat style.
Dragons Dragons
It was brought up early in the show's run that one of the main aims was to make a 2D traditional mecha series as the genre shifted to doing it mostly or all in 3DCG, so it was meant to be mecha all along rather than having the mecha tacked on.
TC
I mean...yes, that is correct, just based on how I watched it, it came across like if the mechas weren't there and everyone was just fighting and doing magic attacks in person, very little would change.
Dragons Dragons
I guess, but that could be applied to a lot of mecha anime, including many of the popular classics.
Dragons Dragons
And the mecha all reflect their users in interesting ways and affect the plot. For instance, JI GUAN LONG being a sniper based on Nene's mom's ARMANOX, then evolving to XING GUAN LONG and becoming a melee build when Nene decides to do what feels right for her and face her obstacles head-on even to her own detriment.
Dragons Dragons
Or how ACONITE GRIS's high aether output still can't compensate for Anna's lack of talent to go with her skill and dedication, and how it was built that way in the first place out of her wish to be better than Shingetsu.
Lightning Bolt
...i feel you must have said granbelm was a mecha series before but i completely forgot that
Lightning Bolt
like i remembered there was a tournament thingy but i think i just remembered it as normal wizard fights
TC
Dragons Dragons
: [stares into the middle distance remembering the Code Geass manga] ..........yeah you right.
TC
I secede to your point because man was that adaptation boring
Dragons Dragons
Lightning Bolt
: in fairness it wasn't like either of the games i played her in would have, or should have, let anna run around in a giant robot
Dragons Dragons
that wouldn't have ended well for anyone
Dragons Dragons
TC
: I actually forgot the Code Geass manga for a second there...
TC
I don't blame you, when you remove the robots from code geass it is SHOCKINGLY extremely boring.
