When I tank I am always super particular about where and how I face bosses I get very annoyed if a boss does a half room cleave and the aoe indicator shows me it's ever so slightly tilted
turning Cloud of Darkness is dangerous because a bad angle makes mechanics harder to avoid and also can hit people who aren't expecting it, the SAM in our party got yeeted like 5 times because of bad Art of Darkness angles
For tiles in normal, I will actually move back instead of to the side to avoid a falling tile, I do it during the GCD roll to avoid losing DPS, Cloud of Darkness doesn't move, but they do turn
A lot of bosses make it easier by having set locations they will move to in order to execute mechanics and in most cases, "in the middle, facing a cardinal direction" is a good way to do it
"how to optimize boss positioning for maximum efficiency and convenience" is something I put too much effort into, I am that guy who brings Captain Madison to the dog pen door in Sastasha
fights where the boss moves to random places constantly or will put down bad persistent puddles also mean I have to decide on the fly where to move a boss to
and sometimes there's like, no good place other than "I'm right up against the wall and there is a E11S sized triangle for the melee to stand I'm sorry this is the best I can do when there are 4 puddles around me"
for some reason, all the times i rolled into P6N on Primal and Materia, tanks turn the boss 90 degrees for the second chou ixou and it makes me miss my positionals
huh I haven't seen any tanks do that, just the occasional tank that gets disoriented after the Spinny but they just end up tanking Hegemone like, East instead of North
yeah i only specifically saw this on Primal and Materia, nowhere else. i thought it was an odd quirk at first but then it happened a few more times with different tanks
anyway I don't expect people to know that like, the best place to tank the Adjudicator in Sunken Temple of Quarn (normal) is on either the east or west pad so that the Sun Juror add can be disposed of quickly and easily
but I do expect them to face bosses away and to avoid turning them too much, especially if it's a duty they've done before and have clearly done multiple times
the best I've been able to get is "one tank tanks ramuh for 45 seconds while the other does it for 15 seconds because they can't figure out how to space out their debuff"
fucking pick up the adds in alliance raids (crystal tower raids, specifically)
