here's another potentialy swerve on the thousand year old teenager dragon trope
Quinneapolis
she goes "I may look like I'm young, but actually I'm 1,000 years old"
Quinneapolis
and later it turns out she's just
Quinneapolis
lying
Quinneapolis
she's just 16 and cringe
ғᴏxʏᴍᴏʀᴏɴ
nods.
Quinneapolis
wait do we finally have a translation of chuuni in 'cringe'
Quinneapolis
did language evolve to close the gap
ShootingXC
it doesn't fully capture that it's a specific kind of cringe but it's more than acceptable
ғᴏxʏᴍᴏʀᴏɴ
yeah i'll accept it
Vehrec
this dragon is 13 years old and you find out when her mom shows up in a panic because she didn't come home after dragon school and instead joined your army/party
Quinneapolis
if she's a dragon at all
ShootingXC
mom joins your party
NekoInc, MSPM
I like the idea of her ACTUALLY BEING A DRAGON but she's still chuuni. Like, when you're ALREADY super, but still a total chuunibyou and it embarrasses everyone.
Quinneapolis
yeah I think it actually is funnier if she really is a dragon, just, she looks like a 15 year old human because she's a 15 year old dragon
Be Maki-Mine 💘
I recently saw "itai" (itabag, painful Karamatsu, etc) translated as "cringe" in Nirvana Initiative
Quinneapolis
I need to start on that still
skerple
okay I am obsessed with Vehrec's scenario actually
skerple
you're doing a Fire Emblem style map and mid-campaign everything comes to a screeching halt because this fucking full-grown dragon just flew into the middle of the map just absolutely losing her shit
skerple
frantically asking all the tiny humans if they've seen her baby
Quinneapolis
dragonteen trying to burrow into the earth to hide
skerple
new objective: calm the mother dragon down enough that she can have a coherent conversation
skerple
she is posing no threat to anybody she's just very big and very distraught and it's very difficult to have a battle around a panicking mama dragon
Quinneapolis
she's posing no threat to you but also you pose no threat to her
skerple
exactly so
Quinneapolis
what if dragons can take human form but the form is always the same age as them, so after about a hundred years they just lose that ability and are permanently dragons
skerple
oh shit that would make sense
skerple
and this isn't widely known because old dragons, for obvious reasons, don't socialize much with humans
skerple
so the occasional feisty teenager can get away with lying outrageously about their age because everyone's just like "sure, that might as well be true"
Quinneapolis
tries to use it to get into bars
skerple
yes good
skerple
also I think the ideal resolution to the dragonteen battle scenario is that, after figuring out what's going on and reading her unruly child the riot act in front of two separate armies, mama gives her permission for dragonteen to keep playing war with you guys but insists on staying with you to keep an eye on them
Quinneapolis
you now have an elder dragon hanging out in your camp who refuses to help with the war effort
Quinneapolis
it's human stuff
Quinneapolis
she doesn't care
skerple
exactly
skerple
dragonteen DOES get absolutely ludicrous bonuses now tho
skerple
also for some reason enemy armies tend to surrender a lot more than they used to once they realize who they're fighting and/or get a glimpse of the elder dragon hanging out in your war camp
skerple
bc yeah she doesn't give a shit about the war but your enemies don't know that
Frozen Time
If dragonteen falls in battle the enemy that felled them gets absolutely obliterated and you do still lose dragonteen but it's because their mom's taking them home now, not because they're dead
Quinneapolis
playtime's ove
