Someone want to explain to my bank branch that the entire POINT of a bank machine is that it is accessible outside of bankers' hours?

Because someone thought it was a good idea to start locking the area it's in at 5 PM

Which makes depositing cheques SOMEWHAT of a challenge

Yikes. Do...they not have the things that can scan your bank card to let you in?

In the Before Times they used to at least be open until 8 PM, which was in fact the ENTIRE REASON I use this bank

But now they close at 5

And aren't open on Saturdays

They are in fact now open... the exact hours I work

I am going to have to go find a different branch and hope IT'S managed by someone sensible but don't have time for that tonight

that's crazy...when I was with Chase there were a couple branches that had the ATM inside but the door to it was unlocked, and the ones to get into the bank proper were locked and alarmed...

That's how this branch USED to work

the plus side to this kind of nonsense is that when my job involved depositing cash I got to leave the office early every friday to do the deposit

...I guess it's really unrelated since that was a teller transaction
