not canon-familiar but I would say flame hair would be doused for initial arrival (so turn into normal hair or Idia would be bald lmfao), but then could come back with the monster transformation! that is my modly ruling

But I’ve also played him with crystal clear hair that the fire overlays, since it doesn’t just rise up like real fire.

HMMM generally anything that isn't humanly possible/probable is nerfed on arrival, so the fire overlay would fade when he arrives! but you can also choose to have him change as fast as you want, so tbh he could be in the canyon for 5 minutes and it could suddenly light aflame again if that works for you
