Uh boy. Now my niece believes the world is flat. (doh)
mimi
Yikes.
SteveBob
Why doesn't 60 minutes or someone take a Flat Earther on a flight from NYC to Tokyo and let them look out the window? Even better, Air Force guest ride in SR-71?
mimi
I'd love to take those flights!

They believe that we’re on a sort of Truman Show. (unsure)
Joan_W
I actually considered something like that in the early 70s, when I was in high school. I eventually rejected the thought experiment.

at some point in my life, i tried to read some of these articles that said why the earth is flat... some of it were plain stupid, but a few was actually quite interesting. i still think the earth is a globe (LOL) also that part about truman show, that should be the effect of the movie, since i had that thought too after watching it :-P

I’ve had a ‘chat’ with someone who thought the Smithsonian was destroying dinosaur bones to hide the truth, archaeologists were pathetic robbers & there was never a lunar landing
Joan_W
ヽ(*⌒▽⌒*)ノ : I think most of us grow out of these thoughts in high school. :-D

say, Grace#🟦 : This came out recently:
“For U.S. Museums With Looted Art, the Indiana Jones Era Is Over”
For U.S. Museums With Looted Art, the Indiana Jones ...

Aye, but the problem with that, ever how the previous curators procured the pieces, means that people now will no longer be able to see works of art from across the globe. Rather they will only be showing local pieces. That itself is a travesty of knowledge

A good respectful investigation of the shape of the earth -
Is the Earth Flat?
Joan_W
Mike L : Thanks, I’ll listen to that! The problem I’m having with my niece is that she believes all conspiracy theories and things like the flat Earth theory. I wish she’d pick one or two and be willing to discuss them. She’s lost a lot of friends.

say, Grace#🟦 : There will always be travelling exhibitions, I hope.
say, Grace#🟦
The only problem with traveling exhibitions is they usually only go to the large metropolitan areas, leaving out much of the country from seeing them
Joan_W
say, Grace#🟦 : That works for me! I can’t live in a doctor desert, anyway.

Joan_W Here's a transcript if you want to read what the episode says without listening to the whole thing

I think part of the problem is that schools don't teach critical thinking, logic, or research skills. Plus they do teach relativism, and make the kids embrace ideas that are clearly not true. Add the interwebs and it's a very confusing time to be young.

What Mike L said!

Mike L : My niece is 53. :-P
Joan_W
Mike L : Thanks, I’ll read the pdf. :-)
Mike L
Joan_W : Ha! Well, it's less true for 53, but still true. I had precious little of it in school, and that was a supposedly "top" Catholic school.
Joan_W
Mike L : I think she may be having a mental health issue. Her biological father was bipolar. :-(
