ed has a ton of very practical and creative skills, and he is well educated in his field. he plays piano, he reads maps, he is curious as anything and learns and adapts well. while I think literacy was possibly higher in the era than we give credit for, it's still not like any of that is the end all

w regard to other points, I think Ed is clean given his circumstances (being on a ship) and when we see him, he generally looks put together more than most. hes fashionable and the wild hair is both a look and just how that hair is

yeah and he is clean too because he does call the Revenge crew grubby and filthy

the Queen Anne is a clean ship

I think there's something that can be said w regards to how some of fandom treats the dynamic but I think there can def be a discussion without villainizing fandom
