the biggest indication is that he completely failed to notice his dad was cosplaying as character from his book.

granted, Shinichi was convinced his life was in danger and did not realize that was his dad

but someone as detail focused as Shinichi, if he had read them, he likely would have at least recognized the mask.

also, Kaito probably also doesn't like the Knight Barron Series because it IS based off Kaitou Kid only if Kid were far more murderous
