[Established Titles]
I Messed Up...
the Click both apologizing and talking about how the fuck this happened
papermint tiger
aka he had them as a sponsor and he even did some research on it
papermint tiger
but he didn't see anything hinky so he went through with it... and now he regrets it and so forth
papermint tiger
we need to spread videos like this so other people see why this company is a problem
Air Ashari
This has always seemed weird to me...one of my favorite channels just did a sponsorship with them and I'm worried they might have gotten wrong info.
papermint tiger
it seems to be a combination of a few things: a, the fact that they sell this gimmicky shit where you can 'own your own little kingdom' if enough people buy land near yours and people think it's fun and cool to be a 'lord' (which is far and away its own issue, but anyway)
papermint tiger
b, they say 'we'll plant a tree' and the green movement is big but it's hard to find ways you can help the planet so here's this company all here like no research needed, trees are great, help us plant trees
papermint tiger
c, they seem to be offering people a quite frankly terrifying amount of money and it's really hard to turn that down with YouTube getting ever more unreliable
papermint tiger
and finally d, the more people who shill this shit the more legit it looks
papermint tiger
so a youtuber who wouldn't normally do this will see the Click did it, or Atosy, or Watcher, or a bunch of other well known and trusted youtubers
papermint tiger
and they'll go 'oh they did it, it must be fine'
papermint tiger
which is why its absolutely exploding now
papermint tiger
also the Click talks about a lack of transparency so it sounds like this company deliberately hides how the whole thing works
papermint tiger
also don't claim to be a lord, you're not a lord (or a lady)
papermint tiger
not in the landed title sense
papermint tiger
finally i think a good way to help stop this is leave a comment telling the creator to not do that sponsor again and maybe why, the Click was tipped off because there were a lot of people telling him it was bad
papermint tiger
i'm pretty sure BetterHelp was stopped in the same way when we had a rash of sponsorships for them a few years ago
Air Ashari
Better Help is still around but not as bad as it is on podcasts good lord they are everywhere there.
papermint tiger
oof
Air Ashari
my therapist loaths them
papermint tiger
well there was a really bad run of it on youtube a few years ago
papermint tiger
i wish the podcasts would also drop them
papermint tiger
by all accounts they are awful
Pen Again
honestly in terms of sponsors, I'd just rather a straight up product. don't try to sell me anything weird or lifestyly or "natural" just sell me shoes or earbuds or something
Air Ashari
Yeah my therapist has picked up so many clients she's had to re work because of them.
Pen Again
but I get it that's not really the types of companies that sponsor
papermint tiger
yeah some of the sponsorship bits are so awkward i have to skip them, they're painful
papermint tiger
i don't need to see how you eat cereal, just shill me the cereal and we can both move on with our lives
Pen Again
yep. honestly I DO skip sponsorship bits, and I feel guilt free because one of the youtubers one time said ...sponsors really don't ask for info on like...where viewership drops off so if we stop watching there...it doesn't matter
papermint tiger
that's good to hear
papermint tiger
anyway, i left a comment on the Watcher's video, every little bit helps
papermint tiger
i'm hopeful this is the start of the end for Established Titles, lots of people are talking about stuff being exposed 'in the last day or two' so the news is slowly being spread at long last
papermint tiger
also to give you an idea about the money youtubers get from this, this is what one person claimed:
papermint tiger
Used them once. Took the profits from those episodes and donated them to a local high school for free breakfasts for hs students for a year and I believe some computers for the school
papermint tiger
so uh yeah, i can see how some youtubers would have a hard time turning that down
papermint tiger
YouTube's Biggest Scam
i know Asmon isn't a person everyone or even many people like, but at least he's covering this and he's pretty big in some places so it's spreading
papermint tiger
jeez, this is such a problem Scotland had to pass a law saying this is illegal
gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
yeah I saw an ad for really good trustworthy wonderful therapy on YouTube recently and paused like what's this? because surely it can't be better help anymore. it totally was. they're still kicking
gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
I love how transparent and honest the click is though like I was a little concerned seeing an apology video from him but he always delivers and maintains being such a real dude
papermint tiger
okay i am really unhappy that the knife company that's mentioned is part of Established Titles, i was thinking about one day owning them. I know, i know, i can get fine knives here, but they looked like really pretty knives
papermint tiger
i need to take notes about how many things are owned by Fail Ventures because i refuse to give them a single clipped coin
papermint tiger
ugh betterhelp...
papermint tiger
and yeah i love eth Click he's great
Teeff
The deluge of sponsorship for this scam in the last few months has been infuriating for me. I'm so glad they've been exposed
Teeff
The Click especially impressed me, and he's someone I never watched before
BloodCri
The Click realizing his mistake and apologizing is very noble. He wasn't the only one who did research on ET, a company who double checks sponsor backgrounds cleared them too so I don't blame him at all for getting tricked. It's hard to find info on just how scummy they are. It's wonderful seeing someone so transparent about what they now know is bad.
N ᴇ ᴛ ʜ ◈◇◇
yeah apparently it was set up to look super legit, and was hard to suss out as a scam. MrBallen took down his vid yesterday & reuploaded it today w/o the sponsor after he found out
papermint tiger
oh i didn't realize MrBallen also got tricked, i skip his sponsors because they way he does them is too silly for me
papermint tiger
i'm glad he did that though
papermint tiger
but yeah going back to the Click's video, it's also scary how much they tried ramping up recently
papermint tiger
35 slots, wtf
Teeff
yeah that's WILD
Teeff
those are alarm bells right there, if they're spending THAT much on sponsorship it's like...how are they getting so much money when they
Teeff
are supposedly donating money to plant trees
Teeff
so sus man, so very sus
papermint tiger
right??
papermint tiger
not just that but they're also apparently paying a lot for this. Click called it a 'life altering' amount of money
papermint tiger
they are spending so much on advertising and it's horrifying
gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
I really don't know the difference between sponsorship and ads but I also don't YouTube much, but even I was like wtf. that goes beyond oversaturated to his viewers will probably actively hate to see you
papermint tiger
i'm pretty sure that sponsorships are basically ads?
papermint tiger
it's just paying the youtuber to say the things and putting money right in their pocket instead of paying youtube to put ads on random videos
Teeff
yeah they're just ads where the advertiser pays for x amount of slots /time for the influencer to shill out
Teeff
yeah
papermint tiger
also yeah i already hate this company. Even before Teeff said that they were evil scammers i was starting to roll my eyes at the whole thing
papermint tiger
like the first person to do it i was like 'oh that's kind of neat, maybe...' and then just about everyone i watched suddenly was doing it and it was overwhelming to the point of being highly annoying
papermint tiger
also i was like, just how much land do these people have??? this is like... a land pyramid scheme
papermint tiger
you have 5 people who are all encouraging people to buy a 'kingdom' of plots around them, just how much space is there??? can't we do something else with that land?
papermint tiger
and the second video showing that the person who runs this company isn't even based in Scotland just makes it so much more suspicious
papermint tiger
at this point if someone did sponsorships for them for a month i'd probably unsub
gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
yeah the idea you don't really own the land but you pay to like sponsor a plot of trees was really cool to me. it's more of a gimmick than anything to get people donating to the green movement. it's too bad that's not what it actually was lmao
papermint tiger
yeah, for real
papermint tiger
so nice to see more and more people being like 'i fucked up' and apologizing
papermint tiger
Markie in this case
papermint tiger
he managed to nip it in the bud before he actually sold anything or got any money from them! huzzah
