1. How aware is your character of their thought processes? Do they think about why they do what they do (however accurately)? Do they care about self-analysis?
James
I think it's something she used to be really bad at--not necessarily that she didn't try, but spiraled over why am I the way I am in non-productive ways. But she's improving a lot over time!
James
Both literally--we see her talking about how much she's changing, figuring out her past mistakes and how she should have handled things, and just generally seeming to get more introspective. (Even though there's still a lot she needs to unpack)
James
And in the case of the curse somehow both literally and figuratively:
James
ie, the owlbeast is a literal separate creature and she's gotten better at not trying to analyze its actions through the lens of thinking it was something she chose/secretly wanted to do, blame herself (although she still does it more than she should) etc.
James
But there's also the side of her accepting it as something that is part of her now and realising that it's a creature with feelings and trauma that lashes out because of fear/confusion/being trapped--and all of the meta level coding re: mental health and self-analysis that comes with that.
James
7. Does your character overcompensate for anything?
James
I think a lot of her behavior comes from overcompensating for her social awkwardness and self-esteem issues
James
she leans into being a clown partly because she genuinely likes making people laugh but partly because then she's in on the joke (be self-deprecating in a funny way before other people can make fun of you! that's how you win!)
James
and she leans into being intentionally mischievous partly because she's just a gremlin, but partly because that's better than admitting you were trying to help/be funny/etc etc but whatever you do tends to go Wrong
James
Talking about how great she is is directly compensating for the low self esteem, usually with a side of doing it in a funny way to cover her bases
James
also leaning into the mischief because if she can't be perfect no matter how hard she tries than she'll make it damn clear she wasn't trying
James
and I think overall she just feels like she has to be both On and Fine to compensate for just kinda being a mess
James
8. Does your character believe they're chronically lucky/unlucky? Why?
James
I think the version I'm playing feels chronically unlucky right now between how the last part of S2 goes and ending up in the apoc setting--but overall, I don't think she feels like she's either. She makes the best of some some genuinely awful situations and that's just Life

I love all of this and in particular why she clowns. It's just such great insight and motivation.
James
Thanks! I just really love how much she seems like a bit of a joke character at first but there's so much there as they actually reveal what her deal is
James
and the child flashbacks are just... painfully 'neurodivergent kid Doing Her Best*
Lindstense Heat
;.;
James
extremely smart but weird girl to feral cryptid woman with gifted kid burnout and a drinking problem pipeline
Lindstense Heat
Relatable, tbh.
James
yeahhhhhhh
James
apparently neurodivergence is going to specifically be a big theme of the remaining two specials and I'm so looking forward to them
Lindstense Heat
Very cool.
James
and now I'm just kind of amused over a review commenting on one of the flashback episodes adding nothing to the season and me just here like: it has lines that made me rethink all of her other character beats

(they're not wrong on it not advancing much plot, I just crave Things To Overanalyze
James
goblinjr: pinging you because I enjoy rambling about her (also feel free to pick more questions)
