You're Quinner
maybe the NFT shit will kill twitter
You're Quinner
maybe something good will happen
You're Quinner
for once in the internet's fucking lifespan
You're Quinner
maybee I don't have to go back to living in a world where the news reports things that trump tweeted
You're Quinner
maybe trump won't become president again in 2024
You're Quinner
honestly more than the politics of the situation I just can't stand how fucking smug all of America's worst people are going to be for the next year
You're Quinner
maybe trump and elon musk will be shaking hands when a bucket of acid explodes nearby
You're Quinner
maybe some day the worst people on planet earth won't be lavishly rewarded for their greed and cruelty
You're Quinner
I wish I wasn't sober right now

RobotApocalypse
a lot of his ideas involved making twitter a "pay to use" type of platform, which honestly would probably kill it outright, so there's that to look forward to
You're Quinner
especially if he makes crypto required to use itt
ғᴏxʏᴍᴏʀᴏɴ
turns out, a scam pyramid scheme like crypto is even less funny when the guy at the top has enough money and power to just, force people to use it
RobotApocalypse
nah, if crypto becomes required to use twitter then there's going to be a mass exodus to an alternative platform. either one of the ones that already exist, or a new one will crop up at just the right time to capitalize on it
RobotApocalypse
if you make a platform too difficult, expensive, or inconvenient to use, then people will stop using it.
wedding rose??
That's true. Look at the LJ->DW exodus. LJ had made things harder and harder and was outright contemptuous of the RP scene, of fandom, and of English users in general, and we'd still held on because small attempts to move to other platforms never lasted. Lots of people had no faith that we'd ever truly move.
wedding rose??
But they went too far, and enough people gathered together and said, "No more, we're moving." And when those people moved, others followed suit because it really looked like things could change.
wedding rose??
There's already been a movement to go back to making small, independent websites with much smaller audiences because we don't have to try and get famous, we don't have to monetize everything we love and suck the life out of it. Who knows, maybe we really will bring back Web 1.0.
RobotApocalypse
i miss website forums being a primary means of forming social circles, tbh
RobotApocalypse
2 of my best friends are people i met on the same webcomic's forums like 20 years ago
You're Quinner
I like plurk and a curated discord server list
You're Quinner
I seldom see anything on them other than posts from people I like
You're Quinner
and even then it is easy to avoid certain topics
You're Quinner
no fucking algorithm curating my life
You're Quinner
I'm not a slave to The Patriots here
RobotApocalypse
plurk is the only social media i even bother with these days
RobotApocalypse
it's just, a real good platform
RobotApocalypse
the only time i ever even glance at twitter is when someone else links to a tweet
You're Quinner
any activity that requires me to regularly use twitter is off the table
You're Quinner
the true reason I'm not a vtuber
skerple
honestly, yeah, I look at twitter occasionally for art and otherwise ignore it entirely
skerple
plurk just, fills my needs perfectly
skerple
plurk + discord
cranberry sauce
I have a Twitter but Discord is where I'm mostly at these days
cranberry sauce
honestly Twitter dying wouldn't be too bad, it'd be the best scenario here
bluecanary
tumblr's alright nowadays
bluecanary
the porn purge weirdly made everyone who stayed more tolerable?
bluecanary
most of the genuinely horrendous people went to twitter
