and he's not so much a villain as he is just a fucked-up dude shaped by his circumstances and torn between cultures that both dislike something intrinsic about him

: I'm so sorry!!! it says something about me that Theon is the one character I have who could MAYBE approach the title, and only like. at one point. if you close your eyes to MANY things
he was a hostage since he was a kid! Ned Stark did his best but Theon couldn't forget he was on the chopping block if his father decided to fuck things up AND HIS DAD STILL FUCKED IT UP ANYWAY
WHEEZES YEAH.......Sharpay honestly does fit the definition better but also lbr compared to what Theon pulled in ACOK she comes off looking kinda small potatoes
I mean yes narratively they make sense given the man's motivations and how he clings tightly to The Old Ways and his grudge. but also YOUR STRATEGY IS STUPID AND YOU'RE AN IDIOT
they do not have tywin's toxic influence. if stymied they would probably flounce off to braavos and become wildly successful performers/courtesans/playwrights which is probably what ryan wanted all along anyway
Yeah I agree about Theon. He's like maybe "the villain" in Bran's ACOK storyline, and to an extent in Robb's, but mostly he's just a fucked-up kid with bad understandable priorities.
to me it's like.......theon is so disproportionately punished that he ceases to have enough bastard qualities to even qualify as a poor little meow meow
me, backing down when u explain further
