Guy comes in and goes on about how he called and was told to come here (through no short terms. I actually had to cut him off to get to the point by asking if he just needed to be seen in the er.) Before that though, he did the thing where you as the other person have to be like ".... Okay? Elaborate?"
Anyway so then I ask his name and he says it really quickly but also immediately follows up with his birthday, which is great on some occasions but here I run into the next issue I have sometimes...
I can hear you as you talk but I cannot type or write that quickly to get everything down accurately. It's the same when people leave voicemails (or calls) for scheduling but talk WAY TOO FAST and then gets mad when you have to ask them what another thing was again because you were in the middle of writing something down
So anyway this guy rattled off his name and birthday quickly and I think I got 2 letters into his name before moving to his birthday because that was going to be harder to catch if I didn't, but I still missed details because I was trying to hurry. So I asked the guy for verification for the birthday and he said yes, even though he wasn't clear on that yes
If it was correct or not. And then I remembered the first name (sort of. Re: too fast) but had to ask about his last and he got huffy with me. And then he offers his drivers license instead (which is probably easier than continuing to ask him when he was being difficult anyway.) this is normally fine, but as he was digging it out and handing it over
He made a snyde comment about privacy and how I was having issues with it, to which I explained that he was just talking faster than I could type it out (which I shouldn't have to do anyway.)
Anyway I type it in and realize the birthday that was "correct" was not indeed and makes a difference to find him. Instead of being the 7th like he said quickly, it was the 17th and didn't clarify that properly when I asked prior. Okay w.e. I got it in and he's in the computer now. I just need to quickly go through with the rest of it now
I gave him the ID back and thanked him for offering it to try to quell the awkwardness a little... Going through the normal check ins tuff on my end, one of the things we have to ask if people have any cold symptoms. Which is usually all nos. Sometimes it's yes to cough Ect and that they were given a mask if so
His response to me asking if he had any cold symptoms was a blank look as if I was stupid for not listening when he first came in (but I was and this question did not cover what he said before). He told me no, which is usually the case, but then made another snyde comment that might have meant to be a joke but did not at all come off as one.
And he told me basically (not in perfect wording), "covid is no longer a thing. The president said that it's no longer a problem" or something like it, which had me like... Seriously? I paid it no mind and filled in the quests, printed out what I needed, and handed over something for him to sign.
That is one if the stupidest things I've heard in a while how "covid isn't a thing anymore because the president said it wasn't". It's.... Still very much around... It's not a game you can boot up and play and turn it off when you decide you're done with it....
An order was passed to me due to system problems and I didn't think the order through because they said they wanted it done tonight (even though it was late when it finally came in to me)
And now I have a pissed of radiology, provider, and patient because of my screw up and honestly... I can't really blame anyone or anything else than my own lapse of judgment
