Parkland Recommendation on all 17 counts is Life, Aggravating Factors Warrant Death Penalty But Do Not Outweigh Mitigating Circumstances

Life Without Parole, unless the judge overrules the jury and sentences him to death.

I am not a mean person but why do taxpayers have to shoulder this guy's lodging and healthcare expenses for the rest of his life?

Άτροπος
Because execution is barbaric.

Under most circumstances, I'm not in favor of the death penalty, but I felt this case could have been an exception. The defense convinced at least one juror that he was not completely responsible for his actions.

: It may also be the easiest way out.

Άτροπος
Execution stokes people’s sense of retribution and punishment. Incarceration is expensive, but there’s hope for treatment and at least potentially putting the person to work in some productive capacity.

Άτροπος
Incarceration is also, in a sense, extended pain and suffering inflicted back on the person who committed the crime(s). Execution is swift and, really, not that much of a disincentive for committing crime in the first place.

if it could be applied equitability and without uncertainty I could almost support the death penalty in theory but we can't even have nice things so hard pass in reality

: Yes, exactly.

That's where I am at too.
