like he is very critical of the Admiral and he haaaaates breaches like nothing else but there's a difference between callous, weird, stupid... and active abusive behavior

There's a difference between 'I am not being transparent about [X] because I don't want you to know (controlling who knows what)' and 'I am not being transparent about [X] because I genuinely can't explain it all (regardless of reason)'

edward like "ive never talked about this" but he secretly kind of has, he told norton about it last time he was on board (also in exchange for norton telling him something vulnerable)

but aside from that, edward hasnt talked about it bc he hasnt... needed to? everyone in the wasteland gets the gist

he hasnt needed to explain it and of the people he sees most often, one of them was literally there for it

so its a bit different than hilbert never talking about it. but at the same time, it was EASILY the lowest point in edwards life, and he hasnt revisited it in a long time bc he doesnt like to remember it, in addition to no one needing to know

whereas Hilbert has never talked about it because talking about your tragic backstory involves admitting you have emotions

My first thought was timeskip, but I'm not sure if he'd be much more talkative after, because that's still ow. XD
