i'll give it a more square shot when i'm not exhausted and grumpy, and try to learn it before fri for the meetup, but there's a chance that i'm just not going to bother after that if it continues to not click. them's the breaks

no hard feelings if you decide it isn't your jam

The company that made it has a shared universe for all their games, so Endless Legend is sort of building off of gameplay ideas that were established in previous games
Gabiluzbad
So if you've played their other shit, then it's a lot more intuitive

Gabiluzbad : ultimately what drives me nuts isn't the systems its that there are some turns where I just have nothing to do other than explore. feels like I'm being suboptimal
Gabiluzbad
Nah that's normal

Especially in the early game

Later on when you have a bunch of cities to manage it'll be more involved

I know it is but it drives me up the wall. maybe it'll click once I hit midgame idk

Strategy games are definitely hit or miss

I will say I share some of the frustration with early game in Civ-likes where its hard and very random to get a good production system going
Rama
Since so much of it depends on map luck
Rama
I will say that exploration/scouting is a vital part of the game though and should be your primary task for units early game, so while it might feel slow, it's still a core part of the gameplay loop
