part of me: rp is pretendy-fun times it's cool rest of me: oh my god there are probably going to be all these things about my character that just doesn't line up with what they believe is ic
I didn't app to a game once something like 10 years ago because a castmate there had wildly different headcanon on something that my character would have to have known about, and their headcanon made my character's canon actions Really Shitty, so -- I mean, there's that!
oh, i can relate. Fate is really crazy esp with the stuff from the games. tbh I dont care about most of it unless it's in Fate/Zero or Fate Stay/Night but even that is confusing with how it works... so i've scoured message boards, reddit, etc and copy pasted the most infomrative comments into a big word document.
honestly, i rp the characters i rp because i like the themes associated with them and want to explore them and make them as deep and complex and interesting as possible (not that i'm like... good at it, lol). i care way more about that than "how do magic circuits work"

: omg yes i feel like you just put it into words so well... i enjoy making a char my own and just having fun with them!
I have ocd tendencies and thats why I look up stuff. but generally if you're my castmate I'll probably tell you about any random details related to your character I might come across if I think its important lmao
my characters are always very much my version of them, and i know some on dwrp get really intense about what's "ic" (and that's fine!! its just not what i focus on as an rp'er, and i try not to contradict canon, but im going to do/focus on whats interesting to me)
One Winged
: you're a good bean!! (definitely not related, cough, but i've been considering kadaj. problem: i never played the original game through to the end)
สแดsสษชแด แดษดแดแดษข๐งจ
: yeah ig the potential intensity intimidates me but. otoh, it probably would be bad mannered on their part to gatekeep to such a degree rather than it being my fault the way i feel like it would be
Kadaj has nothing to do with the original game and probably knows very little about it himself. I'm pretty sure he only has fragments of Sephiroth's memories.
if you've seen advent children that's pretty much all you need to know for him. he's in one of the novels, but that just gives a little more of what he's up to and his powers (and that's on the wiki)
no, it def wouldnt be your fault or you not being a good RP'er. i agree with what the others have said. if someones going to be overly nitpicky about details and not appreciate the hard work you put into the substance of your characters, then that's not right
despite what people say it was very popular and still is .. square still makes merchandise for it ... and apparently a lot of the FF7 dev team want to remake DoC
I enjoy checking in with my castmates for their opinions on things, but I'll also only app into a game if I have chemistry with that player in the first place so I know we're at least starting on the same wavelength

I semi-regularly check in with people that have watched my canon (I haven't done real scenes/games with any). I often worry that I'm losing his voice or straying too far, but you know how it is when you have a baddie that's been mistreated the whole of his canon, and suddenly everyone's nice and wants to help. Like WTF
I find it can really help with reflection/direction. That said, I have the luxury of not having canonmates, or a canon that is very familiar, so you have to deal with a lot more

welp, guess i'll die
