A new deal to resolve a dispute over inspecting the auditors of Chinese companies with U.S. listings was long in the making. But while the breakthrough may resolve a source of conflict between the U.S. and China, this deal says more about China’s focus on shoring up its own markets than about any real change in the relationship between the two countries.
Thursday, Berkshire (ticker: BRK. unloaded another 1.7 million shares, according to regulatory filings, after a similarly sized sale earlier in the week. The transactions mean the conglomerate has sold roughly 1.4% of its BYD (1211. Hong Kong) holdings, which it accumulated more than a decade ago. Berkshire still owns about 19% of the company’s stock.
