Yeah, the horror aspects at the beginning was.... Seriously horrifying. Especially cause I watch it alone in my room at night. XD but then in gets milder, and become more The Mummy trilogy sort of horror and less The Ring.
9 books main series, 8 books filmed into TV series, out of order... And no one filmed the finale despite the sequels are filmed. Main story is separated into 4 "seasons", with a different cast of actors each time, with cliffhanger endings each time, but the continuation does not continue from the cliffhanger and instead does random reset moments to start.
It actually gets easier in the long run. Becomes a lot more Indiana Jones style later. IF you want to try again with someone so it's less freaky, I'm down for rewatching.
It got to the point where I went through all the books in order to resolve the cliffhangers of the very last season, only to discover some of them are TV only and books don't even mention them.
Okay, knowing there's pre-existent fans, and not people I dragged into this.... makes it so much better. I WILL feel guilty dragging any friends into this series.
yeah, i briefly considered xiao ge, but I'm already trying to get an only somewhat antisocial kind of shy character to get more cr, so i figured xiao ge would not be a good move for me
I'm reading the books now, but stalled out on... the one with the dumbass college friend and the huge tree (2 or 3?) when i had to come help the kids out
I finished the main series books. Well, final book, the one where no one freaking filmed after all these years, you will. It's like.... info avalanche dump.
I found that the tv series actually fleshes out the books reaaally well, despite how messy they were, and how random they like to add characters and events in.
SO. we say in the dmbj discord our lovely writer san loves to dig pits inside his pits and then he had a nervous breakdown and some things are just lingering
Canon point wise, I might just start with him with amnesia instead of picking one for ease of decision. But sometime between the 10 years gap might be a good choice.
Yeah.... but figured it's still better to read/watch them in chronological order than to skip. Even if I will probably end up cursing the cliffhangers.
