My thing really is I'd say don't be afraid to play OCs or super obscure characters... I think this has loosened up a lot nowadays!

I feel like back in the day... Some people played from the fad fandoms or big things that their friends were into to fit in and not because they reaaaaally wanted to play with that said character and explore what they're about

I personally never had much issues being a LCW in games and rarely do I expect castmates (but I do rejoice whenever that happens)... And hey, sometimes it's fun watching how a character roughs it out and develops without their nakama and what kind of bonds they form

I'm not sure where the stigmata playing with/against OCs came from but I would never turn one down and I've had some peak fiction CR with them

As someone who mainly plays OCs now, I think it's kind of safe to say that I think there's kind of a fear where there's more mega projection on a personally crafted creation slash

there's more difficulty in making other people interested and invested in the OC especially if you're not as skilled at worldbuilding and character/personality building (i really struggled with this early on and had to build up the skill)

we've been in this hobby long enough to know that doesn't matter if the character is OC or not, people have had issues mega projecting on established canon anyway!
