overall i think things have improved a lot - i don't miss how much wank spilled from the anon comms, the culture surrounding crit and hmds, the backlash you could get for making the wrong paper dolls kiss

but! at the same time i miss comms like theatrical_muse where you'd get both story and RP prompts to spring off of; they were great wells of inspiration and interaction, and in my experience more inclusive than standard games in a lot of ways.

i think we as a community still suffer from a lot of avoidance and passive aggression

and i'm not gonna say i've never fallen into that myself! it's a very easy trap to stumble into.

but overall i wish there was more encouragement/acceptance of, just...direct communication, without worrying that you'll get wanked about behind your back or whatever the hell

I think a small part of it is the age old tone in text is hard to read and people worry about sounding mean or aggressive, but the overcorrection doesn't help.

My personal RP experience has gotten so much better with just being very direct and honest about what I do and don"t want or what's working or isn't.

Oh! One thing about DWRP that I like less, but isn't really anyone's fault - fandom isn't really centralised on Dreamwidth, so there's a lack of a broader community to trade ideas with and take inspiration from. I miss that.
