[friend's dad] Good news still, but also surreal 'holy shit that was a miracle'
lucineblue
He's been recovering really well; seems like there's been no brain damage/he can move all his toes/hands and is able to make jokes and such
lucineblue
but the fact is, this entire thing was a 'this was the best possible outcome for a worse case scenario' that I've ever seen
lucineblue
like, every possible thing could've gone wrong, most of the medical professoinals didn't think he would make it
lucineblue
let me lay it on the line for you
lucineblue
- He had stopped in for a short visit to friends just before he was going to go 4wheeling in the forest with no one around him. Any earlier or later and he wouldn't have had people with him to call for help
lucineblue
- the people at the local, smaller hospital didn't think he'd survive the trek to the bigger hospital with the heart unit-- but still sent him on. That was about 2.5 hours ride to keep him alive
lucineblue
- the medical professionals didn't think he'd survive the operation. They still tried anyway-- 9 fucking hours into the early morning. Like, the Surgeon gave them time to say I love you/good bye just in case.
lucineblue
I'm just
lucineblue
jesus christ
lucineblue
If one other thing had gone wrong they wouldve lost him
'Sail
w h o a h.
lucineblue
yeah... I just.
lucineblue
especially right now when everything is in triage mode for health care
Horny on Main
That's fucking amazing
Horny on Main
aorta dissections are no fucking joke, they're the "dead before you hit the ground" type of sudden death
lucineblue
9 hours operation...
Horny on Main
I'm glad he's recovering so well
lucineblue
same ;__;
Horny on Main
I can understand why it took 9 hours, the aorta is hard to replace and they basically had to put all his blood back in thr right place after
lucineblue
Yeah. They had to monitor his brain oxygen levels, lower his body temp to 22 c, and stictch things up/replace an entire valve
Horny on Main
yep
lucineblue
apparently the doctor has like... saved so many people
A healer (but-)
Holy sheet
lucineblue
A healer (but-) : YEAH I FIGURED YOU ESPECIALLY... WOULD KNOW.
lucineblue
just. they kept him going for 2 + hours in an ambulance on the highway
A healer (but-)
I mean im no EXPERT on aortic dissection but like
A healer (but-)
Definitely one of the Huge Emergencies
A healer (but-)
Like as bad as cardiac arrest or stroke
A healer (but-)
Definitely a “dead before they hit the ground” situation in many cases
A healer (but-)
And he traveled for hours holy fuck how many units of blood did they dump into him
lucineblue
no idea... and 9 hours of surgery in the middle of the night.
lucineblue
till at least 4 am
A healer (but-)
I mean that sounds pretty normal for an aortic repair yeah
A healer (but-)
Theyre lucky that oncall surgeon was Ready
lucineblue
he's apparently like... really well known for saving a lot of people's lives
lucineblue
like best of the best sorta deal.
