Work was a madhouse. And then the debit system went down. >.<

Subject_013
And then customers started suggesting that we just close down the store. Which would lock out two thirds of our customers.

Subject_013
And then we'd likely have either people zombie-style banging on the door OR....

Subject_013
./..Calling the police asking why the store is closed.

Subject_013
And using the emergency line.

Subject_013
That has happened,

Subject_013
We legit closed early during the height of the pandemic and someone called the cops on us.

Subject_013
(Heard this from a co-worker. I was in quarantine when the Incident happened.)

Subject_013
I'd gone to pick up my sick pay check after I got out of quarantine, asked my friend in the courtesy booth if anything had happened for excitement while I was out.

Subject_013
"You're gonna love this one, Ref...."

Subject_013
Ho boy. People be cray.

Vincent Gogh
..........

Vincent Gogh
is that like the only store in that area?

Subject_013
No, which is what makes it weird.

Subject_013
There are two other stores in the same chain within a ten mile stretch, plus a Wal-Mart and several convenience stores.

Subject_013
This is legit a suburban New England town north and west of Boston. It's hardly rural or some such.

Subject_013
ten mile stretch on the same road, rather.*

Subject_013
So there's three stores within fairly close driving range and they're all on the same suburban bus route.

Subject_013
It's just weird. o.o

Subject_013
This is why I fear people going really crazy if there's ever a major disruption in the supply chain.

Subject_013
I don't mean "Oh, we're late getting a shipment of /insert product/" I mean There's No Food To Be Had Because Something Biblical Happened.

Vincent Gogh
and its not like you cant Amazon food now

Subject_013
Exactly - and I also forgot there's a wannabe-competitor store catty-corner across from one of the stores in the chain I work for, so... five places one can get food, plus the several convenience stores.

Subject_013
Thing is, the chain I work for has reeeeallly good prices, so I think a lot of people are either 1.) on budgets and rely on Chain Store exclusively or 2.) are too cheap or in too much of a habit to shop anywhere else.

Subject_013
The first group I totally understand, the second needs to chill out.
