It's a pastiche of the open world collectathon style of RPG (and has some pretty clear LoZ BotW influence in particular) but it doesn't require any particular familiarity with any existing franchise

(the Hero has spent the past couple of decades avoiding the main quest to do all of the sidequests she can find because she doesn't want to deal with, like, finding out what happens when the powers that be don't have an immediate use for her anymore)

(which is working great because she didn't recognize the King of All Monsters when she ran into him and he's been waiting ages for a reincarnation of the Hero who wouldn't just attack him on sight because he's very very lonely)
