my sister the professional chef cooked lunch and it was delicious as always; there were bloody marys, which also caused my sister to realize that our little brother is old enough to run out on an alcohol run if needed (she thought he turned 20 this year; she was off by one);
i gave dad a CD/cassette player bc he has all these cassette tapes and his radio is only half-reliable; mom contributed lemon cake; and we all ended up watching guardians of the galaxy 2, which was super fun
yeah, Bautista is pissed because Drax's arc should have culminated in his killing Thanos and that got taken away. which, fair, it is the logical narrative beat and it does suck that Drax was ultimately denied his vengeance
I honestly never expected Drax to kill Thanos, even if ICly he'd have wanted to. it was always gonna be one of the big players. but it would've been nice if Drax coulda helped maybe
he could have thrown himself in to try and take some of the weight of using the gauntlet like they did with the stone in gotg, only for it to injure him and still not save Tony
nah it was over how he'd failed to kill him correctly when he had the chance, failed to save the world from the snap, and then when they made their last-ditch effort to get the stones and undo it they were too late again
see i felt cheapened because i wanted him to get together with alternate christina, and felt that would have represented a proper character growth for both of them
i can't remember if cathryn has seen MoM and i am hoping to god she has because otherwise i've dumped a bunch of spoilers on her plurk and i am SO SORRY
i kept telling my friend letty about MoM and then she was like "i haven't seen it" like weeks after i started spoiling her and i was like WHY DID YOU NEVER TELL ME
(me yesterday to my sister: "i need to watch something that makes me happy." cue Knives Out followed by that known moodlifter, infinity war. as Mom put it today after gotg2: "it's nice to see old friends.")
/finishes iw, dives directly into endgame/ you know, it used to annoy me that watching these movies meant deliberately inflicting thanos upon myself, but the further the mcu moves from the infinity saga, the smaller he feels. like "you were only paring down the one timeline? how quaint. goodbye."
they made him give up on the future and his friends and go back to live in the past where he was unable to change anything to be with a silent trophy version of Peggy Carter
it's infuriating. Steve's arc is about finding his place and moving forward, and Endgame grabs him out of that place and sends him backward, INCIDENTALLY causing him to abandon Bucky, who is basically his reason for living.
no more "I can do this all day" (the movie even mocks that iconic line) or even "the guy who wanted that went down in the ice in 1945", it's suddenly "I'm tired of all this and want to win the girl and stop fighting"
like, I do not begrudge Steve a potential retirement. but the whole point of The Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron and Civil War was Steve finding his place in the future
my enjoyment level goes that all i enjoyed out of any movie until infinity war was gotg. revisitng them i like them a little more, but for awhile i was mad that they represented captain america as this super nice guy when in the comics, until they made rthat change, he was very different. but they changed that when the movie depiction got so popular
but if you feel ready to think of the mcu versions as being different characters from the comics versions (which i understand they often are), then you might enjoy diving back into phase one a lot more
like the one thing i never got about wandavision was whether she revived her brother from his death or if she took an alternate timeline version of him and basically kidnapped him
that Pietro in WV was not Pietro. he was a random dude who was brainwashed by Agatha into pretending to be her brother, in order to spy on her for Agatha
i just wish i could disney + watch party it with someone (actually if you're willing and want to set a date, apparently you can do watch parties through the tv?)
but tonight is watching nailed it because someone posted a sexual assault photo to my facebook timeline and their excuse was "this is how not allowing abortions feels like, if it triggers you, well the truth hurts" and they refused to take it down or put a warning
it's.... difficult to follow that up with a serious story
anything you're willing to watch! the wandas ones are ones i need to see but i have the feeling i need to watch more to get the general arc of the universe
i mean. yes. if i had my way we'd start with iron man and work our way forward, but that would take forever in terms of helping you with wanda. we can always go back
i propose age of ultron first to get you back to wanda's start in the mcu, then we can go back for context. maybe movies on wednesdays and wandavision/other d+ shows on weekends, like a couple eps at a time?
"Unfortunately, unlike other web-based watch party services, Disney Plus GroupWatch does not currently support native text chat or video chat. Instead, you can react within the Disney Plus apps or web site with a series of emojis."
