My 99-year-old neighbour hasn’t budged. I hear his daughter-in-law is with him.

Maybe I should go up and talk to the firefighters. I’ll take the elevator.

Alas, there were no strapping young firefighters. Only one female fire safety technician.

I was told that my apartment is encased in concrete so it’s probably safest for me to shelter in place. Unless the fire is in my apartment.

I was also told I should fill in a form every year outlining what assistance I need.

I’ve always wanted to learn to rappel, but there’s nothing to attach a rope or grappling hooks or a rope ladder to. I should get a rope so I can attach it to my cat carriers to lower them down one floor. That would make it easier to get myself down the stairs.
