Acti Blizzard King Hires MEASUREHEAD | Castle Super ...
listening to Pat's rapturous hate-joy as he deep dives into Blizzard's diversity algorithm
Quinneapolis
"So I, being short, am more diverse than you, being black"
Quinneapolis
https://images.plurk.com/HBdU0iLlFhovBkJlVcd6n.png Black is 3 points, Arabic is 7 points
Quinneapolis
Torbjorn has more diversity points than Lucio
Quinneapolis
being a woman is being more diverse than being black
Quinneapolis
but less diverse than being arabic
Quinneapolis
I LONG to see the database
Quinneapolis
do trans women and trans men have the same diversity value or is one higher
Quinneapolis
who had to rank these numbers
bluecanary
this all came out because like
bluecanary
blizzard is crushing unions again
bluecanary
so, asthey do every singel time,
bluecanary
they did something batshitinsane
Quinneapolis
yep
bluecanary
that they clearly pulled right out of their ass
Wolfgirl Winter
holy shit
A Grinning DM
I watched the Jimquisition video on this and was rolling
A Grinning DM
at like how characters are given a numeric ethnicity score
A Grinning DM
it is impressive when your expensive complicated attempt at being less racist is even more racist
Beans
woolie jumping straight into the Measurehead voice is killing me
Ken
this was the VERY START of the podcast, it just took me out like a punch to the head.
Ken
Also expect sequels to this video because I swear to god they spent like half the show on it and kept looping back
AzureChrysanthemum
God Blizz is just. Very anti-Black aren't they
Quinneapolis
I need someone to leak the whole tool
Quinneapolis
so that I can plug myself in and see how diverse I am
izzy.vrm
same
A Grinning DM
AzureChrysanthemum : so, I've shared this story before but I'll share it again. I used to have a lot of friends that worked as artists for Blizzard. Now, as you may know, until very recently, you could not make a black character in World of Warcraft
A Grinning DM
there was like one skin color that was maybe close enough, but overall a pretty pale bunch of options
A Grinning DM
Blizzard claimed for decades that they couldn't change this because of the way it was set up
A Grinning DM
and this was true... until like 2 or 3 expansions in when they changed the system and they could have easily added more skin colors at that point
A Grinning DM
so my friend, Blizzard artist, who is black, goes to his boss and is like hey, we should add some more skin colors
A Grinning DM
and his boss is like "why?"
A Grinning DM
"so I can make someone that looks like me"
A Grinning DM
and his boss responds with a racist joke that I won't post here
AzureChrysanthemum
I think I'd seen that story yeah
AzureChrysanthemum
Like, Americans are very anti-Black so not remotely surprising
AzureChrysanthemum
But you can just see how it permeates the company just from the discussion on this stupid tool
A Grinning DM
they're pretty sexist too
A Grinning DM
but that's been well established
A Grinning DM
I think these sorts of attitudes are at most video game companies, but it is particularly infuriating with Blizzard because they go out of their way to pretend they are progressive and open-minded
A Grinning DM
it's the Ellen DeGeneres effect
Rama
ActiBlizz is very much a crucible of the worst traits of white techboys just reinforcing each other over two decades of unimpeachable success
Frozen Time
The delight in his voice when he drops the fact that 2B would score high because of her weight
Quinneapolis
Pat is overjoyed at every terrible revelation
