it's the time of year when I have to use my inhaler multiple times a day and honestly feel crappy most of the time
moontyger
I was outside for less than 5 minutes yesterday and struggled to breathe all night after
moontyger
(this usually happens for around 2 months a year, somewhere in April or May and then September or October)

but also it's become really clear that i absolutely do need to exercise regularly to stay healthy, so I am really struggling mentally with "I need to exercise but also I am already having trouble breathing"
moontyger
I feel like i am being lazy if I don't do it, but also I know that exercise makes asthma worse...
moontyger
I'd try yoga or something, but also asthma is why i learned to breathe shallowly most of the time in the first place, so I don't know if the deep breathing involved is actually a good idea either
moontyger
I am so tired of struggling to make my body function >.<

Whether or not you do try yoga for the deep breathing, if you can do child's pose or extended child's pose and rest your forehead on the mat in one of those postures, just slowly roll your brow back and forth against the floor and it's an amazing release for congestion and sinus pressure

It doesn't necessarily last very long, but it can be a bit of relief. Also, if you get a tissue with just a little bit of menthol/vapour rub/some essential oils and put it on the mat sort of under your nose while you do this, that really helps as well
Bartleby
These are little things that helped me when I was feeling really really desperate

I also find that my breathing will usually improve somewhat over the course of a yoga practice though not necessarily from a pranayama--alternate nostril breathing is the worst for me, some of the others aren't so bad, but it's a good flow practice that seems to help my breathing the most

thanks, I'll try it

as best I can tell, this happens to me when we shift from tree pollen being high to grass pollen being high. I am allergic to tree pollen, but grass is clearly worse

and in fall, well, it's ragweed
