then, at the end of his instruction, he can only be released from the school by speaking the Master Doorkeeper's name

The Doorkeeper presents this as his final challenge: obtain his name

Ged sits and thinks of all the spells he might use to reveal his name

but also of all the spells the Doorkeeper would surely know to counter them

and how, outclassed in every way by this master mage, none of them had any chance of working

he thinks, sleeps, thinks more, then approaches the Doorkeeper

and says

"would you please tell me your name"
