Man, twitter is weird about coming up with weird reasons to not like movies aimed at children. Like, me? I just don't find any recent 3D kids film animation appealing, nothing bad, just not my thing. But then you get things like the Turning Red review where he criticizes it for not mentioning 9/11, or the 10 million "Buzz Lightyear is a republican" jokes.
also on the flip side because of this, people over there get so defensive of the stuff they do like that any and all criticism is equivalent. I saw someone say "The only reason anyone could dislike Turning Red is racism and misogyny".
like, I'm a 34 year old dude with no kids. From what I've heard, I'd probably find something to enjoy if I chose to watch it, but like...aside from not liking the animation, it's also not designed to directly appeal to me
personally I'd be more neutral about Turning Red if both Twitter and YouTube didn't think I needed to see someone's clips of it every time I browse either platform. Even Encanto wasn't recommended to me as much! But that's more being tired of being recommended it and reminded that I still don't find the animation appealing than the movie itself being bad
^me with Encanto, everyone in the Bay Area (particularly dance teachers) is obsessed with "Surface Pressure" and I'm going into full-blown antipathy over the hype backlash
It's not that you can't
do i want anything to do with it? no
